3 Kid's Books to Kick-Off Summer!
By Word Alive Press

Summer means the start of camping, going to the lake, swimming, road trips, and just enjoying family, friends, and the outdoors. Reading a good book adds to all these activities (well, maybe not swimming – but you can poolside)! We’ve got three great children’s books to take with you this summer. These three books below are inspired by the season and will encourage your kids to get outside too:

1. The Great Carp Escape by Irish Beth Maddock

Ages: 3-5

Why: It’s inspired by summers in Okanagan Valley with lovely beach front locations as two siblings embark on exciting adventure.

Book Description: Tadpoles, clams, and minnows – wow! For siblings Beth and Paul, growing up on a lake is fun… until they’re startled by a “fishy” find along the shoreline. When they discover the scaly, moustached carp, they become afraid.

Seasons pass, and Beth and Paul avoid the swampy reeds at all costs – until a flood brings about a life-or-death situation for the creepy looking carp, right in their own backyard!

With guidance from their father, will Beth and Paul be able to overcome their apprehensions about the carp and help save them before it’s too late?

2. Matthew’s Magnificent Gift by Sandi Sellen

Ages: 3-5

Why: This story of a young boy planting a magnificent garden will inspire your kids to get outside and enjoy nature.

Book Description: As a little boy, Matthew had an interest, passion, and wonder for the world around him. He loved the flowers, trees, gardens, bright and beautiful skies, rain, rainbows, birds, squirrels and babbling brooks. On family walks Matthew’s parents quickly observed their son’s enthusiastic appreciation and awe for the beauty surrounding him. This inspired them to give Matthew the most magnificent gift for his sixth birthday! Read about how the gift grew to bless not only Matthew, but all those around him. The magnificent gift turned out to be the gift that kept giving.
