Friday Writing Prompt: Adding Shadows
By Word Alive Press

In Christian writing, there is a temptation to stay solidly in the light—the clear-cut conscience, the purity of kindness, grace, and peace. Of course we want all that—Jesus is light! But, as a famous writer once said, “Never fear shadows, for shadows only mean there is a light shining somewhere near by.” To add shadow, true darkness to a story makes the need for light more palpable, the need for God more poignant. Today, we challenge you to inject darkness into your story of light. Try creating a film noir—or take a scene from that story you’re working on right now, and turn it into one. What happens when the shadows deepen? Where will your light come from?
