Meet the Team: Katelyn Boulanger
By Katelyn Boulanger

Within the past year, Word Alive Press has welcomed a new Communications Coordinator, Katelyn Boulanger, to our team. To help you get to know her a little bit, we sat down and asked her a few questions.

1. What is your favourite book and why?

I’m not sure that I have a favourite book but all of the best ones are those that have been given to me by family and friends. I think that the best book is always one that has been chosen for you either because someone who cares for you thinks it’s exactly what you need in life or because they really loved it and want you to experience the same joy that that book gave them.

2. Why did you pursue a career in publishing?

When I was little when my mom asked me what I wanted to do when I grew up, my answer was that I wanted to read. My mom didn’t seem to think this was a particularly reasonable career choice. She might have been right, however, I think that I have come as close as I can to my childhood goal by finding a job working in the publishing industry. My hope is that I can help to bring the joy I find curling up with a good book to others.

3. What is a hobby of yours?

I love to be outside and take any opportunity to check out a new hiking trail. When the Manitoba winters decide to keep me indoors, I keep the cabin fever at bay by playing board and card games with friends and family.

4. Would you rather read digital or paper books?

There is nothing like having a book in your hands and being able to flip the pages. However, I pretty much always have an audiobook on the go too. Please don’t make me choose.

5. How many physical books do you own?

I have moved more times than I would have liked to in the past few years and my book collection has definitely suffered because of this. Right now, I have probably around 100 books but that number has been slowly increasing since my last move.

6. What book is on your nightstand right now?

I’m currently reading Red Sparrow by Jason Matthews and I recently bought The Sun and Her Flowers by Rupi Kaur.

7. If you were stranded on a desert island and could only bring one thing with you, what would it be and why?

I would absolutely bring a book on how to escape desert islands!
