Writing Prompt: Characters
By Word Alive Press

We hope you’ve been enjoying some I Love to Read Month activities (and have been playing #SpotTheQuill with us!). Now it’s time to create some more of that all-important reading material: welcome to the Friday Writing Prompt!

Us writers are often tempted to make our characters too perfect, and our situations fixable. This week, we dare you to veer away from perfection. Trap your characters in a situation they can’t see a way out of. Give your hero(ine) a new flaw. Go ahead—get messy! Make mistakes! Or at least, let your characters make mistakes. See what you can learn about your characters when you place them in an uncomfortable situation.

Challenge yourself to write at least 500 words. Think outside the box! Expect the unexpected! There’s a story here.
