Meet the Team: Sylvia St.Cyr
By Sylvia St.Cyr

Within the past year, Word Alive Press has welcomed a new Project Manager/Publishing Consultant to our team. With her warmth, endless enthusiasm, and positive attitude, Sylvia St.Cyr is a joy to work with. We’ve asked her a couple of questions, and she has provided the answers below, so you can get to know her a little better.

1. How long have you been a writer for?

I have been writing in journals since I was six years old. I have all of my journals kept in my library, but when I was around twenty-two years old, I got a lot more serious about it. I started writing and practicing inspirational speeches. I started speaking in church about five years ago as well. Then, once my youngest child started attending school, I wrote a non-fiction book, Love vs. Fear. After that I starting writing for the local newspaper, just small stories, and then more recently I was asked to be the Arts and Entertainment coordinator and write about 4-6 stories a month. I have also been blogging for a few years now, at sylviasblog.com.

2. What is your favorite book and why?

My favorite book is The Shack, by William P. Young. I have read this book four times and also lead a women’s book study on it. This book changed my life. The reason it’s my favorite is that it was the first time I saw what a relationship with the living God looked like. What it could be, like a relationship with a best friend, but even better. I buy it every chance I get and give it away to anyone I care about.

3. Why get into publishing?

As a writer, I have a unique skill to offer in the publishing world as I can relate very well to frustrations that authors may have. Also, I’m thrilled with the idea of helping someone make their writing dreams come true, by publishing their written work. I especially love to hear people’s faith stories and guide authors as they publish these stories that have a lasting effect on God’s kingdom on earth!

4. What is a hobby of yours?

I love to do anything outside, whether it’s riding a bike with the kids, sitting on the beach, or hiking a trail.

5. Would you rather read digital or paper books?

Paper books, hands down! I love the feel of a book in my hands, turning the pages, the smell of a book, and seeing how far I am through it. I also love my library downstairs and want to add to it until it turns into a monstrous library, something along the lines of the one in Beauty and the Beast.

6. How many physical books do you own?

I don’t know the exact amount, but every time I go to the self-help store, I leave with more books. I also buy books new. Right now I would guess that I have roughly 500. Probably more.

7. What book is on your nightstand right now?

I always have two books going at once, one non-fiction and one fiction, on top of reading the Bible. The non-fiction book I’m reading right now is The Grand Weaver by Ravi Zacharias and the fiction book I’m reading is A.D. 30 by Ted Dekker.
