Author Spotlight: April Reimer

We are pleased to introduce April Reimer. April recently published Pray for Canada: A Prayer Journal with us, which is now available for purchase through the Word Alive Press Bookstore, and everywhere fine Christian books are sold. We asked April to share a little about her new book and her writing. But first, a little bit about her.

About

April Reimer grew up in a small Manitoba town, which was a great place for developing her creativity. At the age of seventeen, she developed chronic fatigue syndrome, changing the plans she had for her life. After many, many doctor’s appointments, and a few encounters with the Lord along the way, her recovery began—although it was slow.

During a brief stint at Bible college, she began to feel a tug towards ministry, but she wasn’t sure how that would happen or what it might look like.

When she entered nursing school a few years later, it opened up a whole new world. Early in her nursing career, she led Bible studies for co-workers. During that time, April came to see that ministry was something that could be done every day in any environment, not just on Sundays at church.

After two short-term mission trips, a tonne of Bible studies, and numerous hours working as a nurse, April began her studies at ACTS Seminary in Langley, British Columbia, taking online courses. This deepened her love for Scripture.

Her desire to share the hope that is found in Jesus has only grown. Since completing her seminary diploma, she has often had writing projects on the go, and the first one to be published is the Pray for Canada journal. She is currently working on a Bible study on the life of Samuel, as well as another on the gospel of John.

Q&A

Q: Do you really believe that prayer can change our country?
A: Absolutely! Christians are already praying in different parts of Canada, and I think it would be encouraging to see what happens when we all pray together and record the answers the Lord gives us! Whether it’s praying for the Lord to send rain during periods of wildfires or for communities struggling with various issues, it’s always encouraging to record the answers that come as a result of prayer.

It’s also encouraging for us to realize that God answers our prayers! I am motivated to pray more when I know that the Lord hears me and answers. That’s the reason for the book, and I will post updates about answered prayers on my website!

Q: Where did you get the idea for this book?
A: I’ve felt a pull towards praying for this country for the last few years. First of all, our churches need prayer, especially since the COVID-19 pandemic. Believers need to be encouraged.

Secondly, I find that people outside our church walls have very little frame of reference for who Jesus is and what the church is designed to do. There may have been a day when basic biblical principles were known throughout the country, but that isn’t the case anymore.

I’ve felt a strong urge to pray for both our churches and the people outside the church. This book is the result. Although it does focus on prayer for churches and events, I believe that everyday people will become bright lights for their community as the church seeks Jesus.

Q: Do you have any advice for new writers?
A: If you have the urge to write, do it! I’ve kept a journal for a few years and found that it helps with my writing process. I don’t write in the journal every day, but I do try to record significant events. The more I record, especially when I have prayed for something big or small and seen the Lord answer, the more I feel encouraged to continue to pray and study Scripture.
