We are pleased to introduce Felicia Catwell, who recently published Joy Comes in the Morning: A Journey of Faith, Healing, and Love with us. The book is now available through the Word Alive Press Bookstore, Chapters/Indigo, Amazon, local Christian bookstores, and wherever else books are sold. We asked Felicia to share a little bit about her writing and her new book. But first, a little bit about her.

About

Felicia Catwell grew up in Barbados before moving to Canada at a young age, carrying with her both big dreams and deep struggles that would later shape the woman she is today. From an early age, she searched for love, acceptance, and stability, often looking for those things in the wrong places. Though life brought many difficult seasons, including teen pregnancy, addiction, heartbreak, financial hardship, and divorce, those same experiences eventually became part of the testimony that transformed her life.

Becoming a mother at a young age forced Felicia to grow quickly. She learned responsibility through survival, often navigating life without fully understanding her own worth or purpose. While trying to hold everything together, she faced personal battles that left her emotionally exhausted and spiritually empty.

Everything began to shift when Felicia met the man who would later become her husband. While life was still far from perfect, that relationship marked the beginning of stability, growth, and a deeper understanding of love, commitment, and family. Around the same time, her relationship with God also grew in a more personal and transformative way. What had once been distant faith slowly became a real relationship built through prayer, surrender, and seeking God during difficult moments.

As her faith deepened, Felicia saw that God had never abandoned her, even during the seasons when she’d felt lost. Through prayer, fasting, obedience, and healing, she started rebuilding her life piece by piece.

Today, Felicia is a wife, mother, foster mother, nurse’s aide, entrepreneur, and faith-based author. Alongside her husband, she has opened their home to foster children, creating a safe and loving environment for youth in need. Her passion for helping others also led her to found JCLS Youth Leaving Foster Care Support/JCLS Soutien aux Jeunes Sortant des Foyers d’Accueil, a nonprofit that supports youth transitioning out of foster care. She also serves on the board of Barbados House Montreal, continuing her commitment to community involvement and advocacy.

In addition to her community work, Felicia has built multiple businesses, including two convenience stores and JCL Dépanneur & Location de Fêtes Inc., while continuing to pursue her passion for writing.

Over the years, she has published journals, devotionals, children’s books, and self-help resources, but  Joy Comes in the Morning is her most personal work to date. In this deeply honest testimony, Felicia shares her journey through pain, healing, faith, and restoration while reminding readers that no matter how long the night feels, joy truly does come in the morning.

Through her writing and speaking, Felicia hopes to encourage women and families who feel overwhelmed, unseen, or discouraged. Her story is a reminder that the past doesn’t define the future, that even life’s hardest seasons can mark the beginning of something meaningful.

Q&A

Q: What was the hardest part about writing  Joy Comes in the Morning?
A: The hardest part was being honest about the painful parts of my life, which I had carried quietly for many years. Writing the book forced me to revisit seasons of heartbreak, addiction, disappointment, and moments when I’d truly felt lost. There were times when I had to stop writing and pray because the emotions became overwhelming.

At the same time, the process was also healing. I realized that my story wasn’t only about pain, but about survival, faith, restoration, and growth. I knew that if I was going to share my testimony, I needed to do it honestly so readers who are struggling would feel seen and understood. My hope is that people read this book and realize that God can still bring purpose out of broken seasons.

Q: What does your writing process look like?
A: My writing process is very personal and emotional. I often write based on reflection, prayer, and moments of inspiration rather than following a strict schedule. Some parts of  Joy Comes in the Morning came naturally, while others took much longer because they required me to process difficult memories and emotions.

I also spend a lot of time thinking before I write. Sometimes a single conversation, scripture, or life experience will stay on my heart for days before I finally put it into words. Writing this book reminded me that storytelling is about more than sharing experiences. It also involves healing, growth, and allowing others to see that they aren’t alone.

Q: Do you have any advice for new writers?
A: Stop waiting for the “perfect time” to begin. Many people carry powerful stories, ideas, and experiences but allow fear, doubt, or perfectionism to stop them from sharing them. Start where you are and trust that your voice matters.

I would also encourage writers to remain authentic. People connect with honesty far more than perfection. Some of the most meaningful writing comes from real experiences, real emotions, and real growth.

Most importantly, be patient with yourself during the process. Writing takes courage, vulnerability, and consistency, but the impact your story may have on someone else could be greater than you realize.
