Author Spotlight: Gloria Lee-Vojin
We are pleased to introduce Gloria Lee-Vojin, who has published three poetry books with us, with one additional book available soon (see them all here). We asked Gloria to share a little bit about her writing and her inspiration. But first, a little bit about her.
About
Gloria Lee-Vojin comes from a large family. She is the seventh of ten children. Born in British Guiana (now known as Guyana), she was brought up by her strict Catholic mother and non-practicing Anglican father. Mother practically marched them off to church every Sunday.
Her childhood dream was to become a nurse, but that all that changed when she moved to Toronto, Canada as a teenager with her parents, one brother, and three sisters.
Her first full-time job was as a telephone operator, which meant she had to get used to shift work and travelling on public transit, both bus and train. She worked very hard to support her parents and younger siblings.
In her twenties, Gloria got married and gave birth to her beautiful baby girl. Three and a half years later, her very cute baby boy was born. In the early 1990s, she enjoyed writing short stories for her children.
Although she only attended church once in a blue moon, she never gave up on praying. She was inspired to write short poems.
Sadly, her marriage of twenty years ended. Yes, Satan is very real and he comes in many forms. But she has been on a mission to become closer to God, a gradual process but one that’s done according to God’s will and not her own.
Many years later, she met Mark and led him to Christ. The good Lord has blessed them in marriage and they now live on a small farm. She continued to write poems and set them aside. Eventually, though, she got up the courage to show them to her pastor. He encouraged her to get them published, and Mark agreed with this idea!
By the grace of God, Gloria has now published four books of Christian poetry, each one beautifully inspired by the Holy Spirit. It is her prayer that her work will bring an awareness to many about God’s love, grace, mercy, kindness, and most of all His forgiveness of our sins. And that they will thus follow the footsteps of Christ to eternity.
Q&A
Q: Where do you find your inspiration?
A: At first I was mainly inspired by life situations, but that changed over time. Now I am inspired by God’s Word and the prompting of the Holy Spirit.
Q: Do you have a favourite poem from your collection of writing?
A: This is a hard decision, but I would say “Know More of Jesus Christ” which can be found in The Way.
Q: You’ve had an opportunity for collaboration. Can you tell us about that?
A: By the grace of God, I discovered that a young man attending our church, Matthew Walker, was a very talented musician. I approached him about setting a couple of my poems to music, and he gladly accepted the offer. The first poem to be set to music was “Know More of Jesus Christ,” and I found it to be a lovely piece. I instantly thought that a choir should sing it. Thus the Glory for God Choir was born in September 2025. In total, Matthew has composed music for five of my poems, two of which we sang at our choir’s first performance in December 2025. We will sing three more at our upcoming performance on August 16.
Q: Are you working on new material?
A: After the completion of my trilogy collection, I will be taking a break. Having said that, last year I did start making notes about my Christian journey, which could possibly turn into a future book.
Q: Do you have any advice for aspiring writers?
A: Do not hesitate. Just pray about it and ask for God’s guidance. Believe me, if it’s God’s plan for you, it will happen. Writing will have its challenges, including doubts, but God will guide you. He uses us in different ways, so if you have the talent to write, then go ahead and make a start. We don’t know how many people might receive a blessing from our work. I’ve received so much positive feedback from my readers, which is amazing. But I can’t take all the credit, because God has used me as one of His instruments to carry on His work.
