Author Spotlight: Kelly Simmons

We are pleased to introduce Kelly Simmons. Kelly's first book, The Day of Deliverance, provides godly advice on improving your marriage. And, now available is her prayer journal Every Day with You Lord. We asked Kelly to share a little bit about herself, her writing, and her books. But first, a little bit about her.

About

Kelly Simmons desires to see women healed of the emotional wounds of life through the healing power of God’s Word. Her goal is to bring understanding from the Scriptures to apply to the daily concerns of life to women of all ages, ethnicities, and backgrounds around the world.

Kelly Simmons

Her first book, The Day of Deliverance was birthed out of a deep love for God’s gift of marriage and the sadness of dissolving marriages both in and outside of the church. The book addresses married women who are hurting due to emotional heaviness and difficulties experienced within their marriages.

By sharing her personal testimony and giving priority focus to the Living Word of God, she hopes to both encourage, as well as lead readers to the answers needed to overcome issues commonly experienced in marriage. She writes to everyone who’s been hurt from a strained, broken, or struggling marriage.

“I think it’s important to be helpers of one another. By placing focus on the Scriptures and being transparent about my own marital struggles, I hope to help women as they walk through the process of healing and restoration and see the salvation of God in their own lives”.

Kelly recently published, Every Day with You Lord, a 12-month prayer journal designed to help readers come to know and experience God’s faithfulness towards them in a deep and personal way, while building confidence to know God’s unfailing love for them through answered prayer.

She’s currently working on a three-part 30-day topical devotional series beginning with Hope Arise, coming in 2025.

Q&A

Q: What challenged you as you wrote The Day of Deliverance?
A: I believe one of the biggest challenges in writing the book, was the length of time it took to complete writing it. Once the idea was established and the writing began to flow, there were many instances when circumstances arose making it necessary to pause or postpone the work for extended periods of time. Restarting and regaining momentum was a challenge. Getting comfortable with the process, getting settled with the need to take my time to allow for the work to take form, and being patient for the concept to fully take shape was the biggest challenge.

Q: What’s the primary message of The Day of Deliverance?
A: The primary message of the book is the aspect of process. Everything in life involves process, and marriage is no different. We start our marital journey at the altar with hopes of doing life together until the end of our days. Marriage is the process of joining two people together with the goal of becoming one. We will undoubtedly encounter obstacles in that process. If we learn to view marriage from the standpoint of process, we can approach it’s challenges from a more positive prospective, knowing that it’s possible to make it through to the other side of the obstacles we face, if we follow God’s plan.

Q: What advice would you give to writers working on their first book?
A: Be uniquely you, and prayer! There are many authors, but only one you. No one else has your author voice or individual style.

Find your voice and develop it. Secondly, and most importantly, pray throughout the entire project, and each time you sit to write. In John 15: 5 we’re told, that apart from God, we can do nothing. This is so true. Even if we have the zeal to take on a project, willingness, and ability to accomplish it, we still need God for guidance. We can overcome more obstacles, forego many roadblocks, and attain greater success when we include God in the process.

Q: What do you hope readers will take away from this book?
A: First, the need to seek God for the answers and specific direction for our own individual situation. Scripture tells us not to depend on our own understanding and to seek God’s will in everything, and that when we do, He will be faithful to show us the proper path to take. (Proverbs 3:5-6) Secondly, the courage to trust God. We can have confidence knowing that when we seek Him and follow His lead, we can be absolutely assured of attaining the victory in every area of life including our marriages.
