Author Spotlight: Robert Dale
We are pleased to introduce Robert Dale. Last year, Robert published his first novel, Warrior of Light. And, he recently published the sequel Evangelist of Light with us, which is now available through the Word Alive Press Bookstore, and everywhere fine Christian books are sold. We asked Robert to share a little bit about his new book and his writing. But first, a little bit about him.
About
Born in the north end of Toronto, Robert Dale is the oldest of 4 brothers. He didn’t grow up in a Christian home. In fact, there was no Bible present at all. When Robert was ten years old, however, his dad came to the point where he knew he needed Jesus. After he accepted Jesus as His Lord and Saviour, he began to take his two oldest boys to a Gospel Hall on Sundays. This was when Robert first asked Jesus to be his Lord and Saviour. After three more years, Robert’s mother became a Christian as well.
For ten years, Robert’s church attendance was regular and he seemed to have a happy faith in Christ. His family made some moves to new cities as his parents looked for better situations. He learned to make new friend easily from staying in towns and cities for short lengths of time.
In southwestern Ontario, he met some different people and through them decided to leave his church. He began to explore the bar scene and even met a young woman who became his girlfriend.
After a few years, he ended his relationship with his first girlfriend and began a second one—but that relationship also ended. He was heartbroken.
One night, his oldest brother showed up unannounced and rescued him from the town he was stuck in. Robert was allowed to live with his paternal grandparents in the very same city where he had been born. He got back into regular church attendance at his brother’s place of worship, and for four years he enjoyed fellowship with others of his age range.
Eventually, his grandparents sold their home. Robert also had problems with jobs, finding that nothing permanent ever seemed to work out. After prayer, he decided that Ontario was over for him. Instead he set out for British Columbia.
In 2001, he began a new life in the Fraser Valley and enjoyed the company of his parents and two youngest brothers. After one year of struggling to find work, he finally got a job, which he didn’t remember applying for, at a warehouse. Because of how he got the job, he made a commitment to the Lord that he wouldn’t choose when this job would end; he would leave that choice to Jesus.
Twenty-three years later, he still works at the warehouse and is now happily married to his wife of three years. After examining his life in 2023, he felt that he needed to become active for the Lord. The one thing he always wanted was to write and so he began the Warrior of Light series.
Q&A
Q: Why did you wait until this age to begin a writing career?
A: Over the course of my life, I had a lot of negativity thrown at me by many people. Anytime I had a dream of doing something more in life, it got shot down. I stopped believing that I could do anything more than just work a regular job.
Q: Why did you choose to write about spiritual warfare?
A: I see Satan’s influence on people in so many ways, but I don’t hear a lot of preaching from the pulpit about it. I feel that scripture talks about Satan trying to distract and discourage us from spreading the gospel and we need to be more aware of this.
Q: What is the purpose of these stories?
A: My hope is that these stories will help Christians see where Satan may be influencing them and others. I also hope that some readers who aren’t Christians yet might hear the gospel in a new way.
Q: How many books do you plan to write?
A: The Warrior of Light series is planned to be seven books in total. After this, I hope to write another full-length series, which will be four to five books. I have a great desire to continue to write. As long as the Lord is willing, I plan to keep writing.
Q: What advice would you give to new authors?
A: The greatest struggle is just to make yourself sit down in front of the computer. I find that turning off the TV and putting on some good worship music is a huge help. The next piece of advice is just to start typing. That’s the biggest roadblock, in my mind. I find that if I make myself start, the rest suddenly begins to happen.
