Author Spotlight: Tina Pitamber

We are pleased to introduce Rev. Dr. Tina Pitamber. Tina recently published her second book with us, called Faith Can Move Mountains: God, Help My Unbelief. Both of her books are available through the Word Alive Press Bookstore, and everywhere fine Christian books are sold. We asked Tina to share a little bit about her ministry and her new book. But first, a little bit about her.

About

Tina Pitamber was born in Toronto, Ontario, where her parents immigrated from Guyana in 1975. Tina loves Toronto, including the food, the culture, the people, and the diversity that comes with being in one of the most multicultural cities in the world.

Tina Pitamber

She comes from a big family of fourteen, with two parents, four sisters (one of which is her twin), three brothers-in-law, three nieces, and one nephew.

Tina wasn’t born into a Christian home but was introduced to Jesus Christ through the ministry of door-knocking when a woman from the Emmanuel Church of the Nazarene visited and invited her mother to church. Tina’s mother took Tina and her sisters to that church and on her second Sunday gave her heart to Jesus. Tina was eight years old when she gave her heart to Jesus. Since then, her life has been forever changed. She is grateful to that brave church member who knocked on their house door.

Tina attended high school in Richmond Hill and later attended the University of Toronto to pursue a science degree. But during her first year, at age nineteen, she felt a prompting and call from God to move out of the field of science and into the ministry.

After completing her degree, she went on to pursue her master’s of divinity in pastoral studies at Tyndale University and Seminary. With the help of her home church, she then planted and opened a church, Solid Rock Community Church of the Nazarene, in Richmond Hill in 2008.

While serving as lead pastor, in 2012 Tina felt led to pursue her doctorate at Tyndale, after which she completed her doctorate of ministry in leadership in November 2015.

Many years later, in February 2021, she felt called to write her first book, God, Is That You? Hearing from God with Word Alive Press.

After fifteen years of being the lead pastor of Solid Rock Community Church, she moved to Unionville and merged two churches into one, Impact Church of the Nazarene. She has served as lead pastor there since May 2022.

Aside from the call to be a pastor, Tina’s hobbies include travelling, watching basketball, and playful multiple instruments—guitar, trumpet, and piano.

Q&A

Q: Why write a book about faith, when there are already so many books on faith?
A: I believe that faith is the foundation and core of our relationship with God. Without faith, we cannot connect with God. Although there are hundreds of books about faith, it’s a topic that continues to inspire and motivate us. I’m always amazed to read the stories in the Bible about the faith of people like Moses, Abraham, Noah, Paul, and the disciples of Jesus. They never get old for me. That’s what keeps me going in life—stories about faith—and it’s why I wrote this book. I contains many stories from the Bible, as well as my own stories about my faith in God.

Q: Do you have a target audience for your book?
A: No. The simple answer is that my book is everyone, whether it’s young people, young adults, adults, or seniors. Everyone will enjoy how God is working in their lives through faith and trust in Him.

Q: What kind of topics do you deal with in your book?
A: My book has fifteen chapters, and there is something for everyone. There is a chapter on faith and healing, faith and God’s provision, faith and perseverance, and faith and obedience, to name a few. No matter where you are in your relationship with God—whether you’re searching, a new believer, or a mature believer in Christ—this is book is for you.

Q: How do you write your books?
A: My writing approach is all about inspiration. I write books the way I write any sermon message. I let God, through the Holy Spirit, to speak to me about the topic He wants me to write about. I then let the words flow from the Spirit of God. For me, God is the One who pens the words. I’m just the vessel He chooses to write them.

Q: Do you have any advice for aspiring writers?
A: My life has always been about listening to the prompting of God. I know that He called me to write books, even though I haven’t always thought of myself as being a gifted writer. That’s why I pushed through the process of writing a script and started working with Word Alive Press. I’m glad I did, because now I have two books to help others with their spiritual walk with God. To all new writers, I say this: if you know God is calling you to write, go for it. You have the validation of God and His approval to write, so you have nothing to lose. You can do this because God is on your side.
