Friday Writing Prompt
By Word Alive Press

Weather is a much-debated subject in creative writing circles. Some argue that when you begin focusing on the weather, you’re running out of things to write about. Yet the weather is a difficult thing to ignore, especially when you’re living in the middle of a Canadian cold snap (as many of us are) or, conversely, bragging about the daffodils that are sprouting in your front yard while all of your neighbours East of the coast line are bundling up for that cold snap (thank you, Vancouver). For this week’s writing prompt, let’s talk about the weather—or, if you’d rather, how the weather used to be.

We challenge you to write at least 500 words that hinge on the weather—whether you turn it into a plot point or a character.

Share it—we’d love to see what you’ve written! Feel free to share it in the comments section.
