Writing Prompt: Creative Chalk

School is almost done, things are wrapping up and vacation is coming. I often think of the many children in my cul de sac drawing with chalk on their driveways and streets. This week’s writing prompt comes from this summery activity. It’s a different style than usual, so follow these steps:

Take in this picture below for a moment:

Answer these questions about the picture (be creative!):

• Who are the two children in the picture?
• Where did they get the chalk from?
• Where are they?
• What time of day and year is it?
• What are they about to draw?
  Now, use these answers as the starting point for a piece of creative writing: a short story, poem, or a brief chapter.
